Calderdale Way Walking Country

Calderdale Way Walking Country

by: Paul Hannon
The Calderdale Way is a well-established, waymarked 50-mile circuit in the heart of the South Pennines, rambling up hill and down dale in a memorable circuit by way of delightful footpaths.

Explore characterful old villages such as Heptonstall, Ripponden and Mankinholes, with the colourful town of Hebden Bridge at the very centre of the walk. Discover Hardcastle Crags, Norland Moor, Luddenden Dean and Norwood Green, and a wealth of adsorbing features from canal towpath to historic stone causeways across the steep hillsides and moors.

The book describes the route in four stages, each with detailed route finding instructions and sketch maps, distance and OS map references. There is an introductory section outlining the landscape features of the route and some practical information. There is also a log listing major villages and towns passed together with distances from the start and a table listing facilities at each place.

The four stages are as follows:
West Vale to Mankinholes - 13.5 miles
Mankinholes to Heptonstall - 11.5 miles
Heptonstall to Catherine Slack - 11.5 miles
Catherine Slack to West Vale - 13.5 miles
