Hadrian's Wall Path Rucksack Readers Walking Guidebook

Hadrian's Wall Path Rucksack Readers Walking Guidebook

by: Gordon Simm and Jacquetta Megarry
This National trail runs for 86 miles between Bowness-on-Solway and Wallsend (Newcastle) along the line of Hadrian's Wall. Discover wonderful scenery, view superb wildlife, and visit Roman forts and milecastles in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic walk is clearly waymarked and well supported by public transport, with friendly pubs and accommodation. This guidebook contains all you need to enjoy a classic week's walking.

The Rucksack Readers guidebooks have a unique format in that they are spiral bound at the top allowing every page to be opened flat. The additional clever feature is a drop-down route map which allows any page plus the map to be displayed together for convenience on the trail. The books are printed on paper treated with waterproof varnish that withstands the wet plus the map and book covers have a matt laminate on both sides.

The content is also well designed including 70 glorious colour photographs and plans where navigation may be difficult. An introduction gives practical planning advice including when to go, how long to allow, terrain, accommodation, travel and more. A chapter of background information provides some history of the wall, geology and habitats and wildlife. The route is described in six day sections with clear bullet pointed directions following a summary of the day. The main text describes a west to east walk, but instructions are also provided for walking from east to west.
