Walking Close to Cambridge Guidebook

Walking Close to Cambridge Guidebook

by: Clive Brown:
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical.

This guide focuses on the rivers Cam and the Granta near Cambridge. The waters of the Cam approach Cambridge from the south under a confusing number of names. The arm known as the Cam rises in Hertfordshire, while the Granta rises in Essex. These two main arms join between the villages of Hauxton and Trumpington with ten varied and interesting circular walks, mainly about 6 miles in length.

The walk locations are:
Stapleford and Via Devana Roman Road - 6.25 miles
Fulbourn and Great Wilbraham - 6.5 miles
Fen Ditton, River Cam and Fleam Dyke - 4.5 miles
Whittlesford and Sawston and Rowley Lane - 6.5 miles
Great Wilbraham and Bottisham - 7.5 miles
Coldham's Brook, Cherry Hinton and Fen Ditton - 7 miles
Shepreth, Meldreth and Barrington - 5 miles
Barrington and Haslingfield - 7.5 miles
Grantchester and Trumpington - 6 miles
Teversham and Quy Water - 3.5 miles
