Walking Close to Grafham Water Guidebook

Walking Close to Grafham Water Guidebook

by: Clive Brown:
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical. This guide covers the area around Grafham Water with eleven varied and interesting circular walks, mainly about 6 miles in length.

Grafham Water, a reservoir, is home to a wide range of bird life; some unusual flora and some reclusive animals that live in the woodland nearby. It is however the birds that attract most attention; a tremendous variety come and go through the seasons in addition to a large resident population. The Cormorant, primarily known as a sea bird, is a frequent visitor.

There is a well-made easily walked path stretching for 10 miles right around Grafham Water. It is accessible from each of the four car parks but also goes through less well known parts, past the nature trails and close to the dragonfly pond.

The walk locations are:
Madders Hill, Grafham - 5.75 miles
Great Staughton and Gimbers End - 7.5 miles
Perry and Dillington - 5 miles
Spaldwick, Stow Longa and Cockway Lane - 6.5 miles
