Walking Close to Stratford upon Avon Guidebook

Walking Close to Stratford upon Avon Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
This guide is one of an extensive series of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are simple and detailed and include clear pencil drawn sketch maps.

This guide describes eleven varied and interesting circular walks in the countryside close to the town and the River Avon, including Shottery, Charlecote, Hampton Lucy, Wellesbourne and Welford-on-Avon. Distances vary from 3 to 8 miles. Stratford-upon-Avon, of course, derives its fame as being the birthplace of this country's foremost literary figure, William Shakespeare. Very little is known about the man or the life he lived. We do know that he died in Stratford on 23 April 1616 and is buried in Holy Trinity Church, visited in one of the walks.

The walk locations are:
Stratford-upon-Avon, Bordon Hill and Luddington - 7 miles
Hampton Lucy and Scar Bank - 4.75 miles
Wellesbourne and Charlecote Park - 8.25 miles
Aston Cantlow, Great Alne and Walcote - 4.75 miles
Welford-on-Avon, Dorsington and Barton - 7.5 miles
Wilmcote and Canada Bridge - 4.5 miles
Welcombe Hills - 6 miles
Atherstone on Stour and Clifford Chambers - 7.25 miles
Loxley - 4.75 miles
Stratford-upon-Avon - 3 miles
Ann Hathaway's Cottage - 3.5 miles
