Walking Close to Thrapston Guidebook

Walking Close to Thrapston Guidebook

by Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical.

This guide focuses on the Nene near Thrapston with ten varied and interesting circular walks close to the River Nene near Thrapston, mainly about 6 miles in length. The various lakes by the river were formed by the extraction of gravel over a number of years. Titchmarsh Lake Reserve and Kinewell Lake are particularly good for seeing the tremendous variety of wildfowl on these secluded havens. Both reserves are visited on several of the walks.

The impressive Red Kite has re-established itself in the area. The unmistakable silhouette with white patches under the wings and the forked tail twisting, steering it from side to side as it soars effortlessly, may be seen above any of the walks in this book.

The walk locations are:
Titchmarsh Nature Reserve and the Ridge Road - 5.5 miles
Aldwincle, Brancey Brook and Thorpe Waterville - 6.25 miles
Three Hills, Kinewell Nature Reserve and Great Addington - 6.25 miles
Kinewell Lake, Woodford and Denford - 5.75 miles
Thrapston, Woodford and Woodford Shrubbery - 7 miles
Wadenhoe and The Linches - 2.75 miles
