Walking Close to the Nene near Wellingborough Guidebook

Walking Close to the Nene near Wellingborough Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical.

This guide focuses on the Nene near Wellingborough, with ten circular walks in the countryside ranging from 2.75 to 8.25 miles in length. The walks make use of rights of way, national recreational paths, riverside and canal side paths. Irchester Country Park was originally an ironstone quarry. A quarter of a million trees were planted as part of the restoration of this site. Ringed Plover can be seen from March to October in Summer Leys Country Park; it is also home or a regular stopping off point for a wide range of other waders and waterfowl.

The walk locations are:
Stanwick Lakes and Irthlingborough Lock - 5.5 miles
Wymington and Darnell's Dene - 5.25 miles
Bozeat, Wollaston and Dungee Corner - 7 miles
Barton Bends and Grendon Quarter Pond - 6.5 miles
