Walks around Reeth and Upper Swaledale Guidebook

Walks around Reeth and Upper Swaledale Guidebook

author: Keven Shevels
Considered to be the capital of Upper Swaledale, the village of Reeth stands high above the confluence of the River Swale and the Arkle Beck and over the centuries has kept watch over the changing face of the dale. Join the writer in a series of nine walks that explores both the countryside and the history that shaped it, in this corner of what is thought of as the most beautiful of the Yorkshire Dales.

This guide is particularly strong on practical information and advice and ensuring precise navigation along the routes. Large scale sketch maps clearly show every detail at points where paths divide, or any confusion could occur. Key point grid references are provided. Additional information about places of interest, history, and landscape are interspersed with navigation text, but printed in italics. There are also plenty of colour photographs illustrating features of the walks and views you will see. A detailed grading system (Ferguson Grading System or FGS) is used to give you an understanding of the difficulty of the route from the point of view of navigation, physical exertion, and safety.

The walk locations are:
Hurst - 7.5 miles
Grinton and Fremington Dykes - 3.6 miles
