Walks in Monmouthshire and the Vale of Usk Guidebook

Walks in Monmouthshire and the Vale of Usk Guidebook

by: Alastair Ross
This selection of walks includes explorations in both Monmouthshire and Torfaen. To the north explore the rich red sandstone border country around the Trothy and the Monnow, with fast flowing streams, wooded valleys and steep rounded hills. In the centre of Monmouthshire visit a wooded plateau intersected by steep sided valleys, stretching through Trellech to the ancient forest of Wentwood. At the heat of Monmouthshire also lies the Usk Valley and the River itself visited on several walks. To the west the old coal and iron areas of Torfaen offer a wilder experience of moorland and mountain terrain.

The twenty walks in this book are circular and mostly about 3 to 6 miles in length; several are a little longer. The routes are designed to let you discover the diversity of the Monmouthshire landscape and include many of its best walking locations. Each walk chapter starts with a brief description and information about how to get to the start. The main detailed route description has numbered paragraphs and a sketch map with the paragraph numbers shown as location points is included.

The starting locations of the walks are: Skenfrith; Grosmont; Abergavenny; White Castle; Dingestow; Monmouth; Trellech; Devauden; Wentwood; Caerwent; Goldcliff; Usk; Goytre Wharf; Blaenavon; Pontypool; Upper Cwmbran.
