The Ridgeway National Trail Companion

The Ridgeway National Trail Companion

by: Martin Fry and Elaine Townson
This invaluable guide, published by the National Trails Office is full of all the practical information you need to plan your visit to The Ridgeway National Trail. It includes in-depth details about a wide variety of accommodation and facilities such as pubs, shops and attractions that you'll find close to the Trail. It also gives advice about a range of other things including maps, transport and taking your dog with you.

The Ridgeway travels through glorious countryside for 87 miles (139km) from the World Heritage Site of Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. Keeping to the high ground and passing many prehistoric monuments The Ridgeway follows much the same route used since early times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers. It is a Trail of two contrasts: to the west it runs as a broad track through open rolling downland where views are vast, while east of the River Thames is passes through the more wooded and intimate countryside of the Chiltern Hills.

The accommodation details are listed in six sections as follows:
Overton Hill to Ogbourne St George
Ogbourne St George to Sparsholt Firs
Sparsholt Firs to Streatley
Streatley to Watlington
Watlington to Wendover
Wendover to Ivinghoe Beacon
