Britain's Best Small Hills Walking Guidebook

Britain's Best Small Hills Walking Guidebook

by: Phoebe Smith
You don't need to scale mountains to find adventure. In this practical guide, outdoors expert Phoebe Smith has carefully selected 60 of her favourite small hills across the length and breadth of England, Scotland and Wales with the aim of encouraging everyone, no matter how young or old, to get out there and enjoy Britain's magnificent scenery.

Each of the sixty walk chapters begins with practical information including start and finish location with grid reference, distance, height of the hill, total ascent of the walk, terrain and OS Explorer map sheet number. This is followed by a general description of the main features of the route and maybe some history, so you know what to expect. The detailed route finding instructions follow, supported with a small overview map. Most of the walks are fairly short, between 3 and 6 miles.

Each walk chapter is completed with a page suggesting additional activities that might be incorporated into the walk or additional to it together with some useful practical information, all designed to help you get the most out of your day out. These are described under the following headings:
Added Adventure - things to do or explore en route
Make it bigger - options to extend the walk
For Little Adventurers - how to involve children
For campers - options for local camping
For Adrenaline Lovers - plenty of new challenge thrills here
For Hungry Hikers - refreshment options, food shops
Other Practicalities - for example public transport, toilet facilities

The book also includes a useful introduction to safely walking and enjoying the great outdoors and is profusely illustrated with colour photographs. The walks are arranged in three sections; England, Scotland and Wales. For a full list of the walk locations click the link below the 'Add to Cart' button.
