East Sussex Year Round Walks Guidebook

East Sussex Year Round Walks Guidebook

by: David Weller
On a fine day, no matter what the season, there is nothing quite like a walk country, followed by a hearty meal in a good local pub or café. The twenty circular walks in this volume vary in length from 4 to just under 7 miles and are enjoyable all year round. The author has divided the routes into seasons to show each at its very best: whether it be the awakening of plants and animals in the spring; the skylark singing overhead in the summer; the golden glow of falling leaves in the autumn; or the hoar frosts decorating the trees in the winter.

Each walk is described in detail with numbered paragraphs to match the numbers on the accompanying coloured sketch map. There are also notes on what can be seen along the way from castles and medieval dovecotes to timber-framed houses and from butterflies and moths to dog roses in the hedgerows. The book also includes colour photographs and practical information on distance, terrain, map references, and getting to the start.

The walks also offer the chance to visit Ashdown Forest and the Airman's Grave, Robertsbridge with its unusual clock-tower memorial, Firle Beacon one of the highest points on the South Downs and Rye harbour and its nature reserve. There is also the opportunity to walk along the coastal path above Severn Sisters, through part of the beautiful grounds of Buckhurst Park and past the Long Man of Wilmington.
