North Wales Castles Trail Walking Guidebook

North Wales Castles Trail Walking Guidebook

by: Mike Stevens
This walkers' journey explores the richness of the North Wales landscape as you progress past twenty-two castles, or castle sites, from rural Chirk to the mighty fortresses of Harlech and Caernarfon. You will be exploring desolate uplands, visiting busy market towns, discovering secret woodlands, strolling along a promenade, climbing over the might of Snowdon itself (or bypassing it), walking by the sea, crossing the Menai Bridge, and tracking disused railway lines. Along the way you will be visiting these ancient fortifications, relics of old struggles and disputed ownership: Flint, Denbigh, Conway, Criccieth, now memorable silhouettes on a stunning vista to inspire, invigorate and lift your spirits.

The book is organised into 20 chapters, each describing the route between one castle and the next. Each chapter begins with practical information, distance, gradient, terrain, and a rating plus a short overview of the route. This is followed by a detailed navigation text in numbered paragraphs supported by a clear sketch map. There is also a short introductory chapter with some additional information about the castles. The book includes black and white photographs of the castles.
