Oxford Green Belt Way Walking Guidebook

Oxford Green Belt Way Walking Guidebook

by: CPRE Oxfordshire
The Oxford Green Belt Way is a delightful 50 mile circular walk in the Green Belt countryside immediately surrounding the city of Oxford. The landscape is greatly varied, from the East Oxford Limestone Heights to the valley of the River Thames, at Abingdon on Thames and Radley, over sandy Boars Hill and Matthew Arnold's fields to Cumnor, down to the winding Upper Thames, round Wytham Hill to the valley of the Oxford Canal and the meadows of the River Cherwell, and back to the coral rag limestone hills of Beckley and the sands of Shotover.

The route reveals a varied series of intimate landscapes with the occasional wider views both of the 'Dreaming Spires' and the land beyond the encircling hills. The full colour guidebook describes the route in 9 stages with detailed navigation instructions and Ordnance Survey 1:25000 scale Explorer mapping with the route highlighted. Additional history and nature notes are provided for each section plus plenty of photographs. The book also includes link routes from park and ride sites and from Abingdon on Thames and Oxford Parkway.

The stage sections are as follows:

Nuneham Courtenay to Abingdon Lock - 5.6 miles
