Rossendale Way

Guide to The Rossendale Way

Guide to The Rossendale Way

by: Jack Woods
The Rossendale Way is a 45 mile circuit walk starting from Clough Head, Haslingden Grane. The walk will take you through old paths and trails and onto wild moorland, climbing the hills to the Lancashire-Yorkshire border and following pathways around the boundary of Rossendale. There is much beauty in the landscape and a wealth of fascinating archaeological, social and industrial history to be explored.

The guide breaks the route down into nine short sections, from 1.75 miles to 9 miles, each starting and finishing at a motor road. One or two sections are short, but this can be ideal for walkers who want to spend just a few hours walking part of the route. The route is described in an anti-clockwise direction with detailed instructions and clear sketch maps although we would recommend also carrying the OS Explorer maps 287 and OL21.

The stage starting points are: Clough Head; Stubbins; Waterfoot; Healey; Sharneyford; Weir; Clough Bottom; Love Clough; Rising Bridge.
