Walking Close to Leicester Guidebook

Walking Close to Leicester Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical. An introductory page gives some fascinating facts relating to the history of Leicester.

This guide describes ten varied and interesting circular walks in Leicestershire close to the River Soar north of Leicester. Distances vary from four to over eight miles. The routes make use of rights of way, national recreational paths, riverside and canal-side paths in the countryside north of Leicester. There is very little walking on roads except where unavoidable. Most are on firm, good quality paths that are well -marked and signposted. Some paths may cross fields under cultivation.

The walk locations are:
Thornton, Thornton Reservoir and Whittington Rough - 6 miles
Groby Pool, Newtown Linford and Anstey - 6 miles
Swithland Wood and Woodhouse Eaves - 7.25 miles
Ratby and Ratby Burroughs - 4.5 miles
