Walking Close to Rockingham Forest Guidebook

Walking Close to Rockingham Forest Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are clear and precise and the pencil drawn sketch maps are particularly attractive as well as practical.

This guide describes ten varied and interesting circular walks within the Rockingham Forest Area. The walks are mainly between 5 and 8 miles in length. The Forest was once a large medieval hunting reserve used by the Norman and Plantagenet kings. Stretching from Kettering to King's Cliff and from Oundle nearly to Uppingham, only scattered areas of woodland, some quite large, remain.

The locations are:
Brigstock and Fermyn Woods - 6.25 miles
Gretton and Kirby Hall - 5 miles
King's Cliffe and Blatherwycke Lake - 6 miles
Lower Benefield and Winning Foot Hill - 7.75 miles
Wakerley and Turtle Bridge - 9.75 miles
Deene and Deene Park - 5.25 miles
Brigstock and Geddington Chase - 9 miles
King's Cliffe - 3.5 miles
Apethorpe and Morehay Lawn - 6 miles
East Carlton and Wilbarston - 7.25 miles
Bulwick and Hostage Wood - 4.5 miles
