Walking Close to South West Herefordshire Guidebook

Walking Close to South West Herefordshire Guidebook

by: Clive Brown
One of a range of 'no frills' local walking guide booklets which admirably achieve their objective of getting you out in the countryside amongst beautiful scenery on carefully chosen routes full of interest. The directions are simple and detailed and include clear pencil drawn sketch maps.

This guide describes eleven varied and interesting circular routes in South West Herefordshire between Kington and Hay-on-Wye, close to the rivers Wye and Arrow. The walks are between 4.5 and 7.5 miles in length. This corner of Herefordshire is dominated by the Wye Valley and the high ground either side of it. The River Arrow rises on Gwauncestre Hill and runs east to join the River Lugg at Stoke Prior. The orchards traversed in the walks in this book provide apples to the cider making industry. The diarist Francis Kilvert is buried in the churchyard at Bredwardine. Offa's Dyke is also visited on one of the walks.

The walk locations are:
Staunton on Wye and Monnington on Wye - 7 miles
Almeley and Upper Spond - 5.25 miles
Bredwardine and Arthur's stone - 7 miles
Newchurch and Disgwylfa Hill - 5.75 miles
