Walking the Old Ways of East Breconshire and the Black Mountains Guidebook

Walking the Old Ways of East Breconshire and the Black Mountains Guidebook

authors: Andy and Karen Johnson
The walks in this delightful book have been devised with the aim of exploring the area's past, with each walk passing or visiting a number of features about which some background information is given. These include towns and villages, churches, chapels, prehistoric burial sites, holy wells, hillforts, Roman forts, castle sites, canals, tramroads and railway lines, mills, almshouses, mansions, reservoirs, along with information about certain individuals. Several of the sites included can only be reached on foot.

The routes have also been chosen to provide walks that include the main settlements as well as traversing a range of countryside, from quiet river valleys to airy hilltops, crossing fields and passing through woodland, and using paths, bridleways and country lanes.

The 26 circular walks range from 3 to 10.25 miles in length, with most between 4.5 and 7.5 miles. Each walk has a numbered coloured sketch map and detailed navigation instructions, together with boxed background information about features en route. A brief summary at the beginning of each walk describes the terrain and features. The book is illustrated with over 350 superb colour photographs and has a full index.
