Walks in the Woodlands of Mid and North West Wales

Walks in the Woodlands of Mid and North West Wales

by: Des Marshall
Mid and North West Wales are blessed with some fantastic tracts of woodland. This is especially so in Mid Wales, away from the rugged grandeur of the mountains of the North. Here the many deep valleys and tumbling streams give trees the ideal habitat for growth. You will find both deciduous and coniferous varieties with one of the most amazing trees being the indigenous Sessile Oak. Misty sunlight filtering through the leaves and branches gives a mystical aura of a far off land. Woodlands give shade in hot weather when they become a good alternative to open hillsides, sheltering the walker from the sun's heat. It is not unusual to see squirrels, weasels or badgers along with many different species of birds as you walk.
The book contains 27 walks and each begins with an overview description and directions to get to the start. Detailed route finding instructions follow together with a sketch map of the route.
The walk locations include: Fairy Glen; Llyn Sarnau; Swallow Falls and Artist's Wood; Betws-y-Coed and Giant's Head; Betws-y-Coed, Coed Aberllyn and Coed Diosgydd; Hafna Mine; Betws-y-Coed, Llyn Elsi and Rhiwddolion; Llyn Mair; Ty'n Y Groes; Dolwyddelan; Mawddach Estuary; Tan Y Coed; Tal-y-Bont; Afon Aran and Coed Croes; Ynys Hir; Dol-y-Bont.
