Walks on the South Downs National Park Guidebook

Walks on the South Downs National Park Guidebook

by: Louise Schweitzer
This guidebook contains a collection of 26 circular walks ranging from five to ten miles in length all within the National Park. They include some of the most unspoilt and spectacular scenery in the south of England. The routes are on waymarked public footpaths, bridleways, old coach roads and an occasional tarmac lane. Most walks feature a particular landmark, viewpoint, monument, or preserved antiquity.

Whatever the length or location you choose, you will find stunning scenery, richness of wildlife, and many interesting and unfamiliar places to visit. Each walk entry begins with a short overview of the nature and features of the route. This is followed by a 'fact panel' giving distance, terrain details, refreshment options, parking, and the relevant OS Explorer map sheet number. This is followed by a detailed route-finding description intermixed with some anecdotal observations and supported by a clear sketch map. There are also black and white photographs of some locations on the route.
