Yorkshire Heritage Way

Yorkshire Heritage Way Walking Guidebook

Yorkshire Heritage Way Walking Guidebook

by: Burley Bridge Association
Walk the 42-mile Yorkshire Heritage Way to visit some of the most iconic historical sites in Yorkshire whilst enjoying some of the best scenery the county has to offer, including the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From the cathedral in the centre of Bradford, one of the grandest cosmopolitan cities in the north of England, to the cathedral at Ripon, one of the smallest and prettiest, the route links the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Saltaire and Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.

The route takes the walker through wildlife-rich urban green corridors, stunning wooded valleys, alongside tranquil streams and rivers, across upland moor landscapes with extensive views, and past dramatic geological formations such as at Brimham Rocks. There are many bridges to cross including the 13th century Butterton Bridge, built by Fountains Abbey monks, which is featured on the waymarks. Whether walking, running or making a pilgrimage, the Yorkshire Heritage Way provides a bridge between the best of urban and rural Yorkshire.

The guide begins with a short introduction giving an overview of the route and its features. The route is then described in detail in five stages with subsections. The detailed route description has numbered paragraphs with the numbers shown on an Ordnance Survey 1:25000 scale full colour map with the route clearly highlighted by a corridor of two red lines bounding the OS green path line, but not obscuring it. The book also contains numerous attractive colour photographs and has a forward by Colin Speakman.
