Walks in and Around Welshpool, Newtown and Montgomery Guidebook

Walks in and Around Welshpool, Newtown and Montgomery Guidebook

by: David Perrott
Welshpool is a busy market town founded in the mid-thirteenth century. Its appearance of opulence is very predominant throughout the place, perhaps owing to its traditional trade in Welsh flannels. Newtown is the largest town in Powys, much altered since its founding at the end of the thirteenth century, but with plenty of interest surviving and some very fine countryside in the surrounding Severn Valley.

Montgomery is a totally charming small border town. If you are fortunate enough to visit on a warm summer's afternoon you could imagine you were in a sleepy Mediterranean village. There was a spectacular castle, now a picturesque ruin on a crag overlooking the town.

Each walk entry begins with a panel giving a brief description of the walk, including distance, the starting point and directions to get there. The detailed navigation instructions which follow are written in numbered paragraphs and are accompanied by a sketch map showing the paragraph numbers. There is a summary table of all the 20 walks giving distance, time, grade, the start-point grid reference, and brief remarks.
